A comparison of PHP (Open Source) vs ASP.net (Commercial), Performance, Cost, Scalability, Support and Complexity.
basm allah alrahman alrahim
use any , both are the same , but if you don't have money use php [ open source ]
koding on line editor for PHP
I'll answer in my point of view,
Open Source is free you can use it without pay any cent, ASP.net needs license for studio , other for SQL Server, and every additional function you need to pay.
About Performance, PHP is much faster than asp.net, this is the main disadvantage of asp (slowness)
However, the Support asp Microsoft community provide huge efforts in support almost everything set already in WEB, and its easy to reach the information, the PHP community is growing every day, So you can get what you want through google, but the disadvantage of PHP(open source) that no centralization, no company leads the support, just arbitrary companies, random developers around the world.
Complexity, development in asp.net is much faster than PHP. Microsoft makes efforts to provide the best practices in ASP.net C#/VB
Performance - PHP
But this is dependent on the hardware where the application is residing, the better the hardware and application architecture...the faster it is whatever technology you choose.
Cost - PHP
PHP is opensource.
Scalability - Both
Either which, it's scalable depending on the setup and the hardware resources allocated. Support - ASP.NET
For PHP, you have Google and other learning sites however for ASP.NET; you have MSDN, Channel9 vdeos, MIX events, CBTs and Googling will yield significant references.
Complexity - Both
Both technology is easy to learn but ASP.NET has more tools at your disposal comparable to PHP but any experienced developer even with just a plain notepad can create fully functional webapp/s.
PHP and ASP both have their importance. Their usage is depend on to be created project. In some cases, PHP is more valueable in terms of project cost and vice versa.
Like, if I want to create a Shopping Cart website then my choice would be PHP because there are many FREE famous PHP shopping cart solutions available in the market. What I would be needed is just a HOSTING Package to start my business.
Whereas if I want to automize my company accounts or invententory then I might be think about ASP solution. We simply can not negate any of them. Both have their importance on their places but Choce is Yours what to be used!!
Its;s depend on someone personal perference but you need to keep in mind ASP.net option always cost more as comapre to PHP even you will get so if your dealing with Enterprise level customer go with ASP as in future they may want to inegrate there website with there other CRM or Intranet applications which normally bulid using Microsoft Technolgy
For Small Mid Size Companies are Online Business PHP is better as as its cheaper , Stronger and fast but for optimal performance its good you keep your application on Linux environment
And BTW by cost i mean deployment cost , Like if you get Windows Hosting you have to pay for Heavy License fees , Where PHP hosting environment is completely free you not require any licence for OS or DB (In-case of Linux , Apache and MYSQL)
I am a software developer working in asp.net for last five years. Both languages have their advantages and disadvantages.
PHP is an interpreted language though it is strong to develop any type of page you need to develop.
ASP.net is a server-side web application Framework that used for creating web sites, web applications and web services. ASP.NET application can be a part of a mobile, Windows, Windows Service, Smart client or even unmanaged code supported.
But for security and performance reason. I must say ASP.NET is better as compared to PHP.

SIMPLY ASP.NET is best choice
with asp.net you can use rich frameworks for design UI like JUICE UI, INFRAGISTIC UI
additionally you have support for microsoft application data block
there are more functionalities and features added in asp.net4.0
and important thing is everything is free(VISUAL STUDIO ,SQL SERVER MANAGEMENT STUDIO)
From my point of view and from what I was taught, open source is a free world where you can code however you want without any restrictions. In addition, open source is free to the world and therefore you will find alot of forums and FAQs from other people developing on open source platforms ( so don't worry about support, you will have alot of it on the internet). PHP is easy, in various aspects: from learning the language to degugging the program or application. In the sense of scalability, open source programs are flexible in this aspect because since there are not owned by anyone, you have to freedom to act as you like. On the hand, ASP.net (which is a microsoft product) has some restrictions in this aspect and limits the developer.
In conclusion, my final verdict to you is that I think you should go with PHP.
I think PHP is better in that case since open source is free and easy to etxend and as far as I know PHP has biggest online community, lots of blog which mean lots of help and very good performace. ASP.net is good but still it's not opensource lot of restrictions and limitations, compare to PHP and Java. Expansive hosting compare to PHP. Not so big community and not much help (as compare to PHP)
PHP or ASP.net? This is really nice question :)
I would prefer PHP because then you can find and play with lots of open source tools on net.
But if you are thinking a specific platform oriented tools then ASP.net is great. I have been working with ASP.net MVC last few years and found its really interesting to work on visual web developer.
Whatever you choose this is not important. Important is doing better on that track. Both tools have really nice popularity in job field.
Just choose and start playing hard which one you like most...
Have a better journey.........
ASP and PHP are similar in that both tend to put their code in with the HTML, and so the logic can be quite similar.
But, ASP.NET will be very different from PHP in design, as there is a strong incentive to use code-behind in ASP.NET, where you basically have the html template and all the code is in another separate file
Depending on what you are doing, how busy your site is, you may find that the speed difference is inconsequential, though one is compiled and the other isn't.
PHP is probably going to be faster to develop, as you can more easily code a little and test, than you can with ASP.NET, but ASP and PHP are similar in how you can develop.
If you don't know any of these languages then PHP may be the easier one to learn, as the php manual is so well written, with lots of comments from users, and ASP.NET has replaced ASP, so learning ASP for a new project, IMO, is of limited use.
If you go with ASP.NET then you are learning a new syntax and one of the .NET languages, but depending on your background, C# may be relatively easy to learn.
With ASP or ASP.NET you are stuck with using IIS for your server, but with PHP you can use IIS or Apache, so there is considerable flexibility there.
With ASP.NET you will find more options to help with code development, as they now have the classic ASP.NET and ASP.NET MVC (http://www.asp.net/%28S%28d35rmemuuono1wvm1gsp2n45%29%29/mvc/), both with pros and cons, but I believe this site is still written in the latter.
So, which would be better depends on what you are going to be doing with it, and what languages or frameworks you have already gained experience with.
