because six sigma methodology projects usually take about from6-9 months and cost more than other projects like lean manufacturing2-3 months for implementation

Also , six sigma needs a huge company to be profitable also it needs a high caliber to implement

I think that these are good reasons for small companies to implement another methodologies

Six Sigma makes use of large statistical data that is time consuming (hence higher in cost), and whole methodology is to be followed to make even a minor improvement.

Lean on the other hand make use of knowlege & intellect of every person in the company from small kaizen by a skilled worker to the tools used for overall planning, communication and management. Lean is not just a tool but a way of living.

BPM focus on the use of IT targeted at making information flow more effective thus supporting Six Sigma (data collection) ond other improvment methodologies. With BPM you can jump to Six Sigma Analyze phase and it is easier to implement improvement of infomation flow and implement controls.

Other methodologies like SPC and TQM are integrated in Six Sigma but we cannot deny their benifits in solo application.

That does not mean Six Sigma is less important, but Six Sigma is only feasible when simpler improvement (Kaizens) are already made and process is in stable condition but needs further improvements.

Hi Mohamed, Dont you think project lead times depends on the size of the project...? But, we have seen Six sigma projects running for3 months span in case of small GB projects and yielding greater results.

Lean projects always be useful in waste reduction. When it comes to resolving issues Six sigma played a major role. But still companies adopt trial and error or other concepts than resolving through systematic processes.

It always made me think, why companies go away from Six sigma? Is it that, the word "Sigma" itself looks like it is statistical? Is it companies think it is costly?
