As we know each asset has its unique risks. Sukuk and conventional bonds are supposed to be different although they might be treated in similar way. In finance literature, bonds are considered the low risky assets due to its fixation of interests return and priority in case of liquidation. However, Sukuk can be also regarded as low risky asset class but it depends on quality of the assets that back its structure. As we know Sukuk is assumed to be a certificate of assets ownership regardless of its structure.

Nonetheless, it is also necessary to understand the differences of attitude and perception toward risks among the players of both conventional and Islamic financial services. And here, I can say that Sukuk will have greater risks if they are imitated and treated similar to bonds, and the inverse will be right.

Dear Salah,

there are many types of sukuk, some more risky than others. and some of them are identical with bonds except that Sukuk is complied with islamic sharia provisions.
