Is it a good thing from a project manager's perspective if a project is completed before schedule time?

Does it mean the estimate scheduling was extra cautious? or the resources utilised were more than optimal? what if the client isn't ready to receive the project yet?

I think it is better to be near your estimated time.

is better than the delay because the delay in time is more serious for the client

if he follows the planing he should finish at the same time (there is relationship between the financing and the progress) so i cant believe that the project can be finished earlier than the planning, this mean project manager made some thing different than planing.

As long as all quality requirements and project deliverables are complied with and to the satisfaction of the Client,

definitely it is a good thing for the following reasons :

1) On the part of the Contractor, labor & equipment costs are reduced and overhead cost and other related expenses are reduced as well - which are clear savings for the Contractor.

This remarkable performance gives high reputation to the Project Manager and the Company as well. Corresponding rewards are recommended to be given to the Project Manager and members of his team.

2) The project which is completed ahead of schedule will enable the Client to use the finished project to start earlier the operation of business out of it - which is definitely advantageous for him  as earnings for that business start earlier.

This is win win situation for both stakeholders.

However, if the Client is not yet ready to receive the finished project, the most probable reason is his unreadiness to issue full payment because of constraint in casf flow . In this case, he will weigh things as to whether earlier full payment requiring him to adjust cash flow but can start business now or wait for the original scheduled completion time and no business earnings yet out of the project.

Definitely it is good. I explains the hard work and team management of Project Manager. It also explains that the project manager is capable of handling more bigger task then the present one.

If the client is not ready to accept the project before time, then the project manager gets the extra time to re-check it, and give the necessary finishing touch in these free time so when client accept the project ,it will be100%

It is notsufficient to say that the project is good if it is completed before schedule.

The measures are

1- EVM (Scope + Time + Cost).

2- Customer satisfation

It depends very much on the circumstances.

If the project is finished before schedule and it is carried out in such a way that all requirements are met, we could argue that it is generally a good thing.

However, we need to weigh up the advantages of finishing ahead of time against the value of improvements in the quality of the results which may be attained by spending more time and finishing on schedule.

If all the requested deliverables are completed as per clients expectation before schedule then indeed it is a great work.

However there shouldnt be any compromise in quality and performance.

Now ones PM has completed his task from his end...the final output has to be verified and accepted by the client himself, if we miss out anything as we already are ahead of schedule this should help us closing it else client shouldnt have a problem accepting it though we have delivered early.

Yes it is indeed a good thing if the project completes ahead of scheduled completion date by meeting Scope, quality and cost constraints.

It happens that Project Managers usually keep contingencies (time reserves) planned for unknown risks. If the unknown risk didn't realize iteself, or the risk realized didnot need the contingency (risk response) it was planned for, then of course the project can complete ahead of it's planned completion date. I don't think it's bad on PM's part as if he over-estimated, it is indeed good that the end product/service goes to market/go-live earlier than planned which is beneficial for both customer and to the company...

Usually it is , but also within budget? and more important, the client loves the quality of the end result?

It is better to complete the project within the expected time frame, expected cost, scope , and expected quality in order to receive the sponser approval for the obtained product.
