making an offer is a sales proposal in making.
i will offer him my package, it is all about benefits, who knows he might value something we have more than the difference in salary.we cannot see it but he will make it clear to us.
as a rule of negotiation i always assume that what i have is of geater value.i will make him the offer and listen to what he has to say.then i will negotiate on benefits . never ever negotiate about money.
chances are50/50 that he is going to accept it.you will never know until he gives a feedback.
Conceptually, I will proceed within my approved manpower budget. If that is not possible, I will call for a manpower budget review.
The answer to your question depends on the gap between the company's offer and the candidates request and on the avilability of other competitive cadidates. The smaller the gap, the easier to handle the issue. I will try to offer him/her our package. If the gap is not recoverable, I will look for other candidiates and consider promoting somebody from within through a sutable training program to get him/her ready for the job and that usually shouldn't be aproblem.
I came across few cases where individuals are getting higher salary and we offered our package to them and on the gross salary we are not compatible to them but overall package details are on higher side. We did inducted few cases where individuals left their higher salary to a bit lower side just to join their interest field.
We never refused them directly or if there is much difference in salary then we never invite them for interview.
