Which tool is more effective and advanced to keep track on project. I am using SAP (PS-module).
I have used MS project. I understand that Primavera is more advanced but I didn't have the chance to use it personally, I just saw it being used. You probably can tell us about SAP project planning module.
As per my experience.. in MS Project..we can schedule project and we can show progress in percentage basis as well as micro level planning is also not available like on day basis or hourly basis. SAP though is a bit difficult but if we are used to it then on day basis progress of project can be tracked easily. Primavera i have not used but heard that it is more effective for asset management
Well depedns on what you need i think, i use MS Project, and i see it fits my needs, it's easy to use, can be integrated with EPM, do scheduling, cost, time management.
my advice is to stick to what you have as long as you are happy, but if you have extra time, try to see the cons and pros of each, to decide on what you will use eventually.
I assume you are asking about mega projects, I believe SAP has it all, and when I say all I mean including the budget/spending management, staff time management, procurement, asset managment etc.
When we use MS project, it's mostly used for scheduling and also with small projects.
I have not used Primavera, but it's also being used in our company, and I see in some projects project managers (specially on shutdown) prepfered it.
In general I would say, no matter how good is the tool, what is most important how effeciently we use it.
SAP is major of all. It is very effective and accurate. It is time efficient, upto date and helpful.
I sort it in this way: Primavera, MS Project, and then SAP. However, this order may vary based on your working environment, project size and type, skills available, and budget.
Through my view about Planning/Project Management software majority of the personnel in Planning & Project Management field have mentioned Primavera than SAP.
Also The companies hiring to fill the vacancies for Planners & Project Leaders ask for the experience of Primavera or MS Project.
SAP is mostly referred to as a database management software with various modules corresponding to organization flow.
I have worked in both of them, I can say that for large poroject size there is nothing compare to Primavera MS porject is more userfriendly and for SAP you can link your scheduleing data with SAP costing data this way you can manage cost and schedule for the large project and get the benifts of both ERP and EPPM.
KPI should be maintained.
As the rest of the people said, it depends on the size of the project. I am using both of them, MS Project for simple/straight projects and Primavera for more complex ones. I just used SAP in my previous job, and based in my own experience, it is more oriented to organization that manages many projects of diferent sizes.
Accordingly to my job, I preffer Primavera: more customizable, and it allows me to analyze the risks.
I have used MSP and having little knowledge of two others as well. This implementation is totally depends on the organization's requirement, for small and few services company prefer MSP but in construction Primavera would be obivious choice but going above to this level your search should stop on SAP.
