The question is general but i refer it mostly to Solution Designs in complex environments. When there is too many challenges, low team motivation, least support from sponsors and poor communication with the client what is your drive? How do you decide whether you continue with the project or simply give it up and sign, that as per your opinion, this is not a good deal. What drives your decision most and at which point, if decided to stop, you announce it to your management?
hi , to be honest with you , two things can keep the person going in his job .. either the package or the people around him .. if package ok but people are kind of non cooperative u should highlight that issue to the higer managment and show them what is the plan u want to do and how the team around u depressed you to make ur dreams true .. if the package was less so that u can't cover ur exp. or not matching with your qualification .. you should talk open heart with your boss and inform him that the package are not matching with u and u still wanna to continue with your post u should also show him some stuff and plans u want to do but u need the finance appriciation ... if above points are there i mean both points " useless team and bad profit or weak sponser so u better talk to the sponser first and tell him what do u need to do your work probaply .. and u should chose ur team by ur own ... if no respnse then get another chance in another place then quite from that post by very easy simple e-mail telling you wished to continue but current issues around makes the continuedecision are difficult .. and thats it ..
If it was me handling such a situation i would do the following,
First of all after doing all the analysis needed to be sure that the deal is good for me and that means "profit"
Second I will have to present the outcome of the project to the top Management and make them feel it’s a good idea so they give me authorization to use any resources I need.
Third after given resource's I would simply try figure out the best way to catch the client attention and depending on my knowledge about the gulf area and Dubai that would be simply by using personal relationships or have a very strong marketing team
Then if that’s done I will go on as but if any of the first three things I mentioned failed I will simply give up on the project.
* would as the client to give me written/emailed not verbal requirement a detailed one and make it clear that anything outside the paper's he is going to give me won't be implemented and that these papers will be attached a part from the contract.
*After looking at the papers/emails and figuring out the solution i am going to use or implement, I will divide it into more than one task and level each one will be given to an employee with a time table and died line and I would make it clear to everyone that whoever don't do his/her job would face a huge problem so better for them to tell me from now if anyone can't do it.
* if all that is sorted out i will give employees tasks written/emailed and they will have to confirm accepting the tasks
*i will take all the papers/email, the one done by the client, and the recommended solution, and the tasks sent to employee with the time table for the project and show all that to the top management and ask them for approval.
if agreed i will go on and close the deal and if anything happens official written papers or email's would clearly show I did my best and where the mistake came from and who should be blamed for it
When desperate moments like this arises, there is always a solution. When you give up meaning that you have given up challenges.
if I give up what the benfite from the world tray.
Tricky but simple. Understand the scenario. Do a cost benefit and justify for yourself why the programme should go ahead OR be abandoned. Create your case and present it to the management with options & risks. If the decision is to go ahead, then highlight the issues (that you mentioned above) – buy in from the management will see the project through to conclusion.
never give up it is not your call do the best you can present the facts as you see them to management and they make the call
I believe, we should never give up our 101% but yes considering the environment to put into the system and if efforts seem in vain then change the work/company but never give up! Be grittier!
