This is something very sad and bad that in GCC your Nationality really plays important role. According to my12+ years’ experience I have seen the Partiality and discrimination everywhere in GCC. They really pay you as pre your nationality and skin color. Other than special cases normally the grading is as follows:

  1. Americans + British
  2. Europeans + Canadians + Australians
  3. Saudis
  4. Non-Saudi Arabs (Lebanese, Syrians, Jordanians, Palestinians)
  5. Other Arabs (Sudanese. Egyptians)
  6. Asians (Indians Pakistanis Sri-Lankans)
  7. Other Asians (Bengalis, Nepalese, Pilipino)

Really the nationality effects on the career all over the GCC. but sometimes it depends upon the company and organizational structure.

You should never feel that your nationality pulls you back. In potential sense, any individual's, from any nationality, is sky-high. So if you question is how it affects your "career path" then I would say nothing. However, if you mean how does it affect your financial compensation and position respect then thats another thing... There is a miss-conception in the GCC that values certain nationalities over others (we all know which ones), however, I have seen during my career many that break this rule, so again, do not settle with how society labels you or what you feel is relevant to you, keep pushing forward!

Officially, this depends on the national regulations and the international relations. Personally, this will depend on each person's perceptions of certain nationalities.

I worked in GCC countries and never sensed this on personal levels.

Depends on the position and job responsibilities-

e.g. Companies won’t prefer to hire  an employee for a Senior Regional Position for EMEA (e.g.) Region unless he can travel unrestricted to most of countries- Although sound Experience can sometimes compensates for “Nationality” thing

It depends on organizational culture. Most likely the career growth is effected in small scale companies owned by local nationals where they demand Arab nationals on senior post or even in junior positions in order to avoid communication barrier.

It does play a big role depends upon the managements perception and preference. Multi culture and multi national environment is the best for any organisation.

I ma sure the Nationality counts alot while making any career related decision either its GCC or Asian market. Organizations have its own criteria for selecting the candidates.

I see career recruitmen is individual-skill-related matters. And history of nations indeed has a lot to tell and impress decision makers (ex inn GCC) about people and candidate they are going to hire. I guess, in an exhausted HR  depts where they receive abundant piles of CV, this impression  would affect to their quick selection of individual. And here, nationality plays effect to one's career.

Secondly, some nations are sources of modern inventions and sophisticated technology things. Those nations bless their citizen with ecucations, confidence and relations which naturally are needed for progress and development and achievement. Don't these companies including in GCC are existed for these?
