How do you deal with your student if you caught him stealing food from the school cafeteria?

First of all I have to see the age of the student and deal with him as a guardian of him, in view of his age and society surrounded.

After a thorough study of the case, I discuss the incident with the student, offer him alternatives and warn him the sequences.

I will report the police

I would have real concerns as to why he is stealing food. Are there bigger social implications? Is he getting enough to eat at home? Can his family afford food or are they suffering hardships? Does he have the money to buy food but would rather spend it on something else? I would attempt to find the answer to all these questions before jumping to any conclusions and labelling him as a thief! Calling the police would be my last course of action!!
