My own favourite would be Long John Silver in "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson.
I can't name them all, but one of my favorites is Antoinette from Jean Rhys' "Wide Sargasso Sea" :)
I love the heroes of Oliver Twist,Hard times
the character of Sherlock Holmes.
The heroes of the necklace by Guy De Maupassant
Rassendyll in The prisoner of Zenda
the heroes of Shakespear works
Dantes in the count of Monte Cristo
It's a really tough question with all of these remarkable characters all over the wonders of literature. The following three are the most impressive ones I cound think of; but it would be too hard to pick a single name :)
Alan Coterminal from"King Soliman's Mines" by Sir Henry Rider Haggard
Portia from "The Merchant of Venice" by William shakespeare
Abbe Faria from "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas
