cONTEXT
Basically, there are many ways to teach new vocab. these include: i) realia ii) translation into mother tongue, iii) mime, iv) through context, and v) by definition, etc. That is to say, do not spend too much time on introducing vocab. and involve your pupils in the process, and elicit meaning from them. Also, do not focus on every new word in the text unless it is significant to the comprehension of the text. Later on set drills for your learners to give them opportunity to understand the new vocab. and try to recycle the once "new" vocab. later on as you go on with the course. And remember that creative teachers can devise their own techniques and use the most suitable ones that suit their teaching situations and objectives. Good luck.
First: learning it by heart then by putting each word in context
i don't know
I strongly believe that learning vocabulary in context helps people make connections for better comprehension. In fact there are various strategies that can help students understand and incorporate new words effectively.
The best way is to know a new word is to understand its context, or circumstances by setting the scene itself.
It is also helpful to find clues within the sentence that suggest the word's meaning such as the word`s part of speech or the word formation along with making connections with familiar words.
Vocabulary is something that is picked up from "everyday" conversations or when "new" words are included in a lesson. If you, as a teacher, are introducing a word that you don't think your students have heard before, give them the meaning and explain why it is a "good" word for the context you are using it in. Get them used to using a dictionary to research new words for themselves. An additional way of teaching vocabulary is once you have explained the meaning of a word and the context it is used in, get them to think of alternative words for that particular word, this will help with putting words into context. It is to be hoped that young and inquisitive minds will ask the meaning of words that they don't understand or haven't heard before.
To teach vocabulary, first write the new words on the blackbaord and use picutres or symbols beside each
word to make it easy for the students to understand their meanings. BY this way, the students will be able to remember these words and use them in useful sentences. Words are the first step for the students to learn any language so they should pronounce them perfectly so the teacher should make his students repeat them more than once and then ask them to insert the new words in sentences.
