As soil mechanics definition
Compression:-process of applying load to the soil
Consolidation:- is the process in which reduction in volume takes place by expulsion of water under long term static loads
Shrinkage:-is decreasing in soil volume due to moisture decreasing by evaporation from the soil surface in dry climates, lowering of the groundwater table or desiccation of soil by trees during temporary dry spells in otherwise humid climates
Compaction:-is process to densification soil mechanically
Rebound:-is phenomena that shown on surface of the soil lay when remove stress from it the lay will return back to same thickness after removing the load
Expansion:-is increase in soil volume when water content increase
Swelling:-is increase in the volume due to increase of the soil particles by water absorption i.e when particle absorbed moisture the size will increase
__( Loosening or scarifying:- To break up the surface of (topsoil or pavement
it is out of my specialist
Compression:The loss in external volume under constant load
Consolidation:The loss in volume with time
Shrinkage:The loss in volume resulting from capillary stresses during drying soil
Compaction:The loss in volume due to artificial temporary load as rolling, tamping, vibration
Rebound:The increase in volume due to remove sustained load
Expansion:The increase in volume with time
Swelling:The increase in volume resulting from increasing of water content
Loosening or scarifying:The increase in volume due to artificial operation
