If you have a huge project and not enough time, what would you do?

Never compromise the quality of work as will compromise your actual project because the risk of rejecting the works that don't comply with requirements and shall be redone on your expense, which will have heavy consequences towards the project payments, project deadline, liquidated damages and performance bonds/guarantees. The risk of exceeding the deadline is always actual in all projects. In my opinion you shall go the other way: re-write the programme of works, realocate and increase resources, increase work time and work force. Scrutiny for improved methods which will save time, even if will cost a little more.

Moreover, in the same time carefully scrutinize the conditions and terms of the contract related to employer obligations to find out if there is any grounds for a claim for Extension of time.

There are many seniors to answer this but what best I think:

1. To make them understand why we have to work fast and what benefits we will attain from that (the best benefit is that we will be able to recognize some more capabilities with in ourselves which were hidden till date),

2. To get involved in the project activities not only at planning and development phase but at action phase as well irrespective of the designation,

3. To allot the work to associates after identifying the competency levels because as time is short so we want best results ASAP (as it happens a person working at managerial level gets a post of Officer in a country and a person less competent becomes a Manager because of certain factors)

4.To supprt and acknowledge all the efforts put in by the team associates

5. and the last is to celebrate together.

Add in more required resources and meet the deadline withour compromising on the quality. Earning credibility and good referals have long lasting fruitful impact on future business relationships.

Usually distraction is the reason why projects fall behind schedule.

If I am involved in the project by myself, the answer would be to find a quiet place with everything necessary to complete the project. Then concentrate and stay with it until its completion. 

As a part of a team, it is a little more difficult, but necessary to elicit the dedication, commitment and enthusiasm of the team. Then find a quiet place to where the team can concentrate and stay on task until the project is complete.

focusing on the main activities ; and add resources to branch ones to complete at same time with not effecting the required quality .

Conceptually this should not happen if the project was propely planed involving all stakehlders and effectively manging risks. But what ever we do, we should not compromise the quality of the approved project goals because the project will be a failure even if completed in time.

Hndling such projects will mostly impose higher cost than estimated one. If that is approved, then there are two approaches depending on the nature of the project and availability of resources.

- If the project time can be shortened by throwing extra resources (this is not always the case) and if these resources are available, I will do just that.

- If the project can't be shortned by throwing extra resources, I will revise the project plan to account for what caused the problem(s) and I expect a longer time and consequently extra cost.

- If the extra required resources are not avilable, I will revise the porject plan to account for the resource availability and againm I exepct longer time and consequently extra cost

Delegate some of the tasks in hand to qualified employees

There are multiple ways to resolve this problem.

1. Fast track the project - idenfity tasks that can be done in parallel. Risks should be analysed for the fast tracking option.

2. Crash the schedule - Add additional resources to tasks on the critical path. Understand the impact on the project budget.

3. Reduce scope in consultation with stakeholders

4. Skip through non-critical project management activities

5. Look at opportunities for sub-contracting certain elements of the project

Here are some tips:

1. Delegate

2. Reinforce the team (invite others to take part in the project)

3. Review the action plan and other ressources (change or improve, as possible and as necessary)

4. Set S.M.A.R.T objectives

5. Extend working hours (extra time at home, at night...)

I will not loose my project, I will try to complete it before the dead end or use other resources of subcontract to finish it.

I think that as per my experience don't take this project unless you have all requirements (100% defined)

Because the project will have too many high risks and most probably the project will not be delivered nor on time nor with good quality.
