Online Marketing is the art and science of selling products and/or services over digital networks, such as the Internet and cellular phone networks.

The art of online marketing involves finding the right online marketing mix of strategies that appeals to your target market and will actually translate into sales.

The science of online marketing is the research and analysis that goes into both choosing the online marketing strategies to use and measuring the success of those online marketing strategies.

Types of online marketing include:

  • Online Advertising

  • Search Engine Marketing

  • Email Marketing

  • Social Media Marketing

  • Article Marketing

Advantages:

  1. One of the most important advantages is the fast availability of the information. The clients/users can easily get information, by navigating the internet, about the products that they wish to purchase, and besides that, they can check the information at anytime of the day.

  2. It allows the companies to save money, an aspect that is really taken into account by the companies since the online marketing campaigns don’t require a large amount of investment.

  3. Presence on the Internet can help the expansion of the company from a local market to national and international markets at the same time, offering almost infinite expanding possibilities.

Disadvantages:

  1. One disadvantage of advertising on the Internet is that your marketing materials are automatically available for anyone in the world to copy, regardless of the legal ramifications. Logos, images and trademarks can be copied and used for commercial purposes, or even to slander or mock your company. This is not the case with television and magazine advertising, wherein images must be replicated rather than simply copied electronically.

  2. Another disadvantage is the fact that the Internet-advertising gold rush has begun to introduce ad clutter to the Web. Web users are so inundated with banner ads and spam email that they have begun to ignore internet advertising just as much as ads on traditional media.

Offline Marketing Advantages:

1) Maximum Conversion: It is a proven marketing method that converts with maximum possibility. If you put into practice these proven methods can get tremendous results for you.

2) Multiple Ways: There’s a lot more than one method of offline marketing, so you can easily reach people without access to a computer via different methods. These methods include TV adverts, postal mailing lists, billboard posters and a lot more.

Offline Marketing Disadvantages:

1) Costly: The cost of offline marketing can really add up, so it isn’t best for people with small businesses or a small budget to focus purely on this.

2) Time Taking: Offline marketing methods take time to put into place, you can’t get breaking news and expect to be on the television within the hour to let people know. Mailing letters, posters, and radio adverts take time to make and distribute, so you have to do a lot of planning ahead.
