Of course but put in mind that you are not reaching all customers those who don't have accounts on any social media.

Facebook and Twitter is the best place for spreading the latest updates and your brand specifically. Not having a facebook page for your company especially if you are into retail and sales, is defintely a loss of business. Top retail outlets and even shopping malls have their facebook pages which are regularly updated on a daily basis which not only includes informations and advertisements, but also introducing some quizes and games, which promotes and makes users to get attracted to the pages.

Hi Yazan,

Good question. Allow me to contribute.

I would rather call Facebook and Twitter Social Media Platform adding the adjectives: most popular, biggest, oldest, most memorable, most covered, recognizable etc. The terms “tools”, “platform” or “simply media” (plural of medium, which they basically are for social interaction), are closely intertwined. Social Media tools may now refer to the back-end analytics software (tools) used to monitor all kind of intelligible data related to social media use, like usage, response, brand mention, reputation management etc.

If one is targeting a bigger audience, the Facebook, Twitter & their likes amassing huge subscribers-base, may offer solace in reaching a bigger audience. However, as a Social Media expert myself, I like to look a bit further not excluding some excellent niche social media platforms that may have exactly the type of audience I want to reach. Being the oldest and most “affluent" platforms, and having their own back-end on-site analytics and extensive advertisement model, Facebook & Twitter (also Linked) are mostly up-to-date and even trendsetting for other smaller platforms.

In conclusion, YES, they are the best in many ways but the competition there is bigger. Besides, they only cover two types of social media: social networking websites & micro-blogging websites, leaving other types non-compared (like video sharing sites, social bookmarking sites etc). Presence on Facebok & Twitter has become "an industry-standard & indiscriminate must", but excluding other social media with the growing number of competitive similar sites may be a missed chance for a savvy SMM manager!
