Your question makes me smile. Well here goes. Of course you can enter writing contests for different reasons. A couple of them: you are someone really curious as you like to ask thousands of questions; by entering writing contests you'll improve your writing and learn from your mistakes.
To enter a writing contest is beneficial for the audience and yourself.
Although they are contest and may have financial or other types of rewards, the challenge is still to produce quality work, aimed at the required writing task completed to a deadline.
It can be a good way to practise writing skills and develop knowledge for a subject you may have interest in or know alot about.
Time has to be dedicated to these writing contests so this has be to acknowledged and time planned to organize work so that material completed on time and to a good/high standard.
If you win, great, look at the next opportunity and keep improving on writing skills - always ask for feedback even if you win.
If you lose, will that encourage you to continue entering contests? Again get feedback if you can to see what areas of writing can be improved onl
Follow your feelings, if entering contests is what you really want to do, do so. Be clear about why you are entering the contest and what you hope to learn from this experience.
