In Industry, Inverter is in Electrical or Electronics department ?

Inverters usually belongs to electrical field because it is used for power supply of House Office, it also utilises the power electric element which comes under the power electrical section but some of the basic design depend on power electronics circuits so it can be said that it is electro elctronics such as electromechanical devices

You can find the inverter in each computer power supply & each ups from500va to1mva the most part of it the mosfet & igbt to invert DC to AC so it is power electronic.

Inverter is an electronic device or equipments but mostly maintained by Electrical Departments.

As frequency drive (inverter) is related to  power electronics subjects so It belongs to both electrical and electronics but mostly elecctrical staff own it. I say it belong to that department who will to own it at first.

There are two aspects of inverter in industry.

1: Designing and Manufacturing: The design and manufacturing of inverter belongs to electronics. Because you have to design a mechanism  which converts dc (usually12v) to ac . So it should be in electronics department.

2: Installation of Inverter: The installation of inverter belong to electrical because you have to do a separate wiring for inverter's live. Only required portion is connected with the live of inverter. So it should be done under electrical department.

Inverter is belong to both department electrical or electronics because we all know that inverter is not running without electricity and maintain by electrical department even this is electronic component.

Actually it is Electrical department, because it is use for Emergency purpose for Electrical system control units and lighting systems, some electrical equipments power backup and etc. when the invertic system is break down, while electronic specialist is assist with Electrical dept.
