As a teacher, would you prefer if students left a question unanswered or if they answered it wrong?

I would prefer the student to answer wrongly rather than not answer at all This shows that at least they have the confidence to try and gives the teacher the opportunity to discuss and give positive feedback whilst providing the  student with the correct answer

There are things that can be "salvaged" from wrong answers, firstly they have tried, made an effort, secondly although the answer may be wrong the workings out or lead up to the answer may be right or at least moving on the right lines. I believe maths teachers give marks for the mechanics of getting to the answer, although I couldn't confirm that, perhaps a maths teacher would be kind enough to let me know. Not answering, literally tells you nothing, therefore of the two I would take the wrong answer in strong preference to no answer.

i think, as a teacher I would prefer the student to answer, even if his answer is wrong.

but in real life i think wrong answer causes abig damage, so if i knew the answer i should re-check my answer first.

As a teacher i will suggest student to answer a question wrongly rather than leave it blank. At least they try to answer  the question as far as there knowledge concerned. it is better to try rather than give up.

For me as a teacher, I really appreciate those students who will try their best to answer questions even their answers are wrong.

Smile and say this is not the way pal. Understand the learning level of the student(Kirkpatrick model - Learning phase)  and interest. Try to explain him the situation/question relating it to the interest and say him pal if you answer it now i will give you a chocolate free but after taking a bite.

Thank you.

It is taken for granted that we learn by mistakes. So , it is better if students give a wrong answer. If they know the correct answer , they will learn.Leaving unanswered questions can lead to laziness. They will be used to leaving their own problems without solutions.

It depends on the type of the training and the type of the test

1- Type of the Training

In the industrial training environment where "Try and Error" method of performing a certain repair can lead to personal injury and/or catastrophic machine failure, so we insure that trainees learn to avoid the "Tray and Error" attitude, and if they don't understand something or they don't know how to perform a certain task, they should return to the reference materials and read it very well until they understand the task or they request assistance from mentor.

2- Type of Test

If Test is "Multiple Choice" we instruct our trainees to leave the the question unanswered if they are not100% of the answer, as wrong answer will lead to Minus (-) scoring, to avoid answering questions by guessing.

While for training discussions in class room environment, we appreciate attendees participation with any answers to enhance brainstorming.

I prefer if they answer it wrong because that mean they practices their mind seeking answer.

Wrong answers is more important than no answers. The learner/ student actively learn a lot by answering wrong. The biggest challenge is to assist the learner/ student to rectify the answer by allowing them to find the correct answer in a given time with allocated resources. The spin-off here is that the learner/ student learn more, have the ability to handle "rejection" and learn how to do "problem solving"
