At the surface, these two topics are separate, different and independeing from each other,
One of the main differences between project management and marketing (or any other functional entity within the organization) is that projects are temporary by nature while functional entities are onging
Below the suface, there could be some commonality between project management (as a practice) and any other function (like marketing) which also needs valid and proven management practices as the case in project management.
Another way of looking at the subject, If you treat marketing activities (or any other function as a matter of fact) as mini-projects, then you will find that most of the PM processes may be applicable ,.. from initiatioan phase to closing phase.
Lastg word on this topic, I have proposed back in2008 that business process management (BPM) could be applied to a discipline like project management where advanced BPMN charts/diagrams can be used to describe the PM processes instead of simple flowcharting. If you think the same with markeging activities and how they can also be represented by Business Process Diagrams (BPD's) using some advanced notion like BPMN, the we may be able to uncover what is common between project management and marketing (your question) !!
