A process by which a company (often a manufacturer) manages and integrates the important parts of its business. An ERP management information system integrates areas such as planning, purchasing, inventory, sales, marketing, finance, human resources, etc.
ERP is most frequently used in the context of software. As the methodology has become more popular, large software applications have been developed to help companies implement ERP in their organization.
Think of ERP as the glue that binds the different computer systems for a large organization. Typically each department would have their own system optimized for that division's particular tasks. With ERP, each department still has their own system, but they can communicate and share information easier with the rest of the company.
Business Intelligence – BI software helps measure a hospital’s operational performance, by providing key information to managers for budgeting, status of a requisitions, and patient visitation analytics. Physicians also find BI tools a valuable asset for in providing the right care, to the right patient, and at the right time.
Better Patient Care – New hospitals are opening in large numbers across the USA, so patients (i.e. customers) now have a choice which hospital they would like to use for medical care. This increase in competition has forced hospitals into ERP selection projects so they can utilize “state-of-the art’ computer systems. An efficient hospital will ultimately improve patients’ comfort and satisfaction, therefore increasing their ability to capture new patients.
Reduce Operational Costs – Hospitals are businesses too! As a for profit organization, they need to control operational costs and do whatever possible to increase profitability. Hospital ERP systems will help in reducing overhead by integrating departments such as billing, finance, inventory and supplies, and human resources.
Integration – Many healthcare systems (approximately75-80%) are still running on very old, dispersed software systems. These old systems have many custom interfaces written that are very outdated, difficult to maintain, and costly. They need an integrated ERP system that will streamline information throughout the hospital, their outpatient facilities and other, affiliated healthcare facilities.
Manufactures and distributors are no longer the only organizations who view ERP as a necessity. It is quickly becoming a mainstream for the healthcare industry. While an ERP implementation may be a significant investment, hospitals are realizing ERP software is necessary to remain competitive and to support their growth, acquisitions and consolidations in the21st century.
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is business management software—usually a suite of integrated applications—that a company can use to store and manage data from every stage of business, including:
(ERP defination was taken from Wikipedia).
Hospitals use HMIS (Hospital Management Information System), HIS (Hospital Information System) or HMS (Hospital management System). I have worked with couple of them but mostly they are designed specifically per Hospital requirements. HMIS is consist of couple of sub systems i.e. PACS system, RIS, EHR, EMR, and few more. Terminologieschanges from company to company.
One of the popular system which I used, was from DMS (Data Management Systems), an Egyptian company. On international level LG has an awesome HMIS, but expensive. It takes months to tweak any HMIS before it becomes operational for that hospital.
Now about learning part, sorry to say, there isn't any book/video to teach you. You need to choose the area in which you want to work and then learn the procedure.
Here's the link for DMS:

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a comprehensive software solution designed to streamline and integrate various business processes and functions within an organization. ERP systems are used to manage and optimize a wide range of activities, including finance, human resources, supply chain management, manufacturing, inventory, sales, and customer relationship management link . In summary, ERP systems are powerful tools for organizations like international hospitals as they help streamline operations, improve patient care, enhance resource management, control costs, and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. Implementing ERP requires careful planning, customization, and training, but the benefits in terms of efficiency and effectiveness are substantial
An ERP is a collection of integrated programs. Each of these programs autoated an interdependent set of business processes. For example, Accounts receivable (AR) automates the processes of issuing customer invoices and credit and debit note for those invoices, it also handles customers' down payments and using those to vlose the customers' open invoices. AR integrates with a stock control program to link customer invoices to stock issues. It also integerates with cash and banking programs to link customers' payment with thier open invoices and so on.
There are ERPs specific for hospitals and medical care. They include programs to manage patient files and medical history.
Most ERP vendors have sites on the Internet. Use any serch engin for the ERP name and you will be able to access all information about that ERP and its users and its pros and cons.
As Mr. Rehan Qureshi and Zia Meer Said what are the ERP is and also they have explained what does it mean and how you can benifit from it, and i would like to add that in order to manage many branches (as you have said INERNATIONAL) you have to get a better look for the work flow of all the branches and also all the departement and to do so the easiest way is by using a tool as a program as ERP system to have as much reports as you want that can disripe the whole cycle.
For employeres it help them to see the information they want to assist them to there work in the best way so that we can increase the human capital productivity and quality by providing them with a seamless flow of information that can help them247 which reflect in the end with a better profit margent, also by using an ERP system you can reduce the stock and savesome liquidity for improvment and enhancing of the needed proccess to be enhanced while some system can provide you with many tools like ABC Analyses which enable managers to invist or buy some materials rather than spening a lot of money on some materials that they can buy it in other time where its needed not to stock it.
Also ERP systems help every facility to reduce cycle time while simplifing the work processes and automating the process with an effictive way and reduce correcting mistakes that human being can do during the pick time.
