As they say "there is more that one way to skin a cat". I believe in Photoshop theres more than one way to do everything. To Crop/cut-out an person from an image you can use any of the following tools:

  • * Choose Lasso tool from the Tools palette and select around the subject. Select Refine Edge in the Options bar to give your selection a smoother, less blocky edge.
  • * Magnetic Lasso tool- If the person is on a plain background or if there is a good contrast between the person and the background, this works great
  • * If theres a plain background, the Magic Eraser works great in deleting the unwanted areas
  • * Magic wand can be used to selectively choose and remove groups of colored areas.
  • * Finally Quick Mask- my personal favorite- is the most ideal way to erase out unwanted areas. Just use the brush and eraser to mask/reveal the areas you want to remove. The advantage here is that you can always bring back the erased areas in case you make a mistake

Thanks. Hope that helps.
