Think about the one or two teachers you had in school who meant the most to you. What made those individuals effective as teachers?

My two favourite teachers were two entirely different characters, one was very strict, formal and very orthodox in his teaching methods. The other was laid back, informal and completely unorthodox when teaching. The things that they had in common however is what, in my opinion,made them such good teachers albeit in such different ways, they were both extremely knowledgeable, fairminded, never spoke down or belittled their students, commanded respect and above all both had really well developed and honed sense of humours!!!
