As a Safety officer, how would you manage or respond to an oil spill from a vessel on shore with the minimum effect on aqua-life and environment?

I think the safety officer should work with HSE manager to look for the root cause of the problem ..that is more important than how to treat the spell

This is NOT an easy topic and it is NOT the sole responsibility of the safety officer.

In fact, other functions/people come to play very acively in the case of oil spills and their potential impact on aqua-life and on environment as well !

The case of the British Petroleum (BP) oil spill in2010 and its diverse effect on the environment and its heavy multi-Billion $$ losses in finance

I have personally used this example to demonstrate what can be done, and who should do what in  crisis management and reputation protection in the energy sector.   A5-days class I gave back in2010 when the BP oil spill was still hot news .

So, once again .. it is much much much bigger than the safety office !!
