How you see the importance of social media in building brand awareness? why?

I went through a presentation which asked what is the ROI of a $10,000 Piano. For the publisher, it was some frawns and yelling, for Elton Jhon Million $. This pretty much sums it up, it depends upon your brand and your skills at using the social media as a tool to create its relevancy and importance for you and respectively for your brand awareness campaign.
