if you are asking about Blending modes so you are talking about Overlay
Overlap is a distorted polygon created by modeling with wrong direction
It's always happened with modeler that interact with polygon modeling specially when importing files or merging files inside 3DS Max from other software like Autocad as example and by time modeler face no trouble to correct model topology
