Formal Communication comprises of all the Formal means like management and authorities which is not flexible for feedback.
Informal is grapewines, inter-departmental comunications etc.
Formal communication:
It takes place through the formal official channels. It is not flexible and is totally controlled by the management. It has documentary evidence. Official discipline and secrecy is strictly maintained. It is time consuming and expensive. There is almost no chance of misunderstanding. Official discipline is maintained chance of mistakes is very low
Informal Communication:
It takes place by passing the formal channels. It is flexible in nature and cannot be controlled by the management. It has no documentary evidence. Also, Official decorum and discipline are not followed. In this case maintaining secrecy is very difficult and less time is taken for transmitting information. It is less expensive than formal communication. In informal communication due to lack of control misunderstanding can takes place whereas strict rules are not followed, therefore possibility of mistakes is very high.
Formal communication:
Supported by emails, circulars, fax and memorandum or any other media of communication between parties, board, audit .. etc. It is almost during duty rime.

Supported by phone calls, whatsapp, messaging or any other media of communication between peers, direct supervisors... etc. It is almost out of duty time.

Formal Communiction : Communication which reflects the values of corporation and its working and defines the straight forward values which are being head to tail from Board of Directors to Gatekeeper.
Informal Communication : this method is oftenly used by mid level management to get interact with persons related to organzation but in a friendly way, you can say a open platform to express views or just making day to day execution easy.
Formal communication is a structured (clearly defined procedures) form of communication. For example Annual General meetings, staff memos on service improvement requisits etc.
Informal communication is an unstructured (no clearly defined communication procedures) form of communication. For example negotiating in a client meeting, communication among team members on personal matters pertaining to the job etc.
