It's very true in all ages. We can't achieve something desireable without experiencing some unpleasant moments.

For instance, to achieve a higher degree we have to do hard work even if we dislike it.

It's kind of like .... you can't just sit there and expect everything to work without doing anything. In a way, everything is a process, and the process works only when the actions related to it , are PERFORMED.

For example, you can't say I need a job and NOT job hunt.

I believe it's true. There is no easy success. To create a beautiful painting, you have to get your hands dirty. However, I don't agree with generalization. Every case has exceptions.

My own interpretation of this expression is that it simply means:  It's a fact, inevitable, that's life! I feel that it is all too easy to "overthink" it.

Proverbs, quotes and expressions are great and can be a good evidence to support certain idea but they shouldn't necessarily be true. The best thing to do here is to be more specific and avoid generalization as there are religious, beliefs, geografic and cultural differences so what suits one doesn't have to suit the other.

This idiom means that in order to achieve something or make progress, there are often losers in the process.

If there are no losers ,it means that you will look at individuals' sake at the expense of  public sake and here all will lose.http://www.usingenglish.com/

It is true with the understanding that we should be realistic and follow normal steps in doing things.
