If your competitor's brand has a wider fan base but you make more sales, would you be satisfied?

When a big fan-base leads to big sales, it seems sound & logical enough. When big sales don’t seem to correspond with a big fan-base, then something is out of the ordinary here (!). So, yes I will be satisfied temporarily with this sales success in itself, while moving on to achieving a more sustainable success by consolidating my brand image and growing its popularity to have a bigger celebration.

  1. So, your loyal customers are no fan of your brand? Why?
  2. What do others do differently? Don’t others care about sales like you do?
  3. Do you think your competitors will settle for popularity at the expense of sales?
  4. Is your brand a type of brand that is difficult to be loyal to (one time purchase product or service)?
  5. How can your competitors succeed in attaining a big fan base, being your competitors and as such probably offering comparable products or service?

These are some necessary questions to act upon in such an unusual situation. Generally speaking, one should not rely on big sales, as they may be temporarily and prone to future "threats" that can damage your sales eventually or upon a certain period of time.

No because of the following

1- brand relevance ie more fans give indication about brand strength and future growth

2- brand esteem and knowledge ie more sales give indication about brand status , past performance and current situation

so in this case if you do not have corrective measures and actions that mean you will loose your leader position in the near future

If the fan base of my competitor consists on the potential audience then I should have to think about it.

Only if I have a sustainable competitive advantage over my competitors and being as profitable (if not more) as my competitors.

Yes and No. Yes because my sales are higher and that means the  money flow is happening and this allows me leverage to pump in more money into my marketing and product improvement.

No because the brands potential has still not been realised. I would get into the market to analyse where my competitor is scoring, talk to my existing customer base about the negatives of the brand and then put in more resources and efforts to improve the branding.

Generally speaking..no, I could not allow myself to be comfortable just with the sales figures.  For one thing, my competitor's fan base could very quickly turn into buyers that will fall into my competitor's hands. Another issue is that, my competitor's fan base maybe just doesn't have the purchasing power yet (maybe they're too young, let their mothers/parents or girlfriends do their shopping for the house)...but one day, they might turn into potential customers.

I would want to find out who are they? Where’d they come from? Are they actually interested in my product? Why or why not? I would certainly work on my social network/online  presence in order to  increasing my fan base and also secure my current fan base, all while targeting a wider base and increasing my sales figures.

I will not be satisfied due to the fact that as an entrepreneur my target is not only the amount of sales made but how able I am to cover a wide range of customers and my ability to go on top of my competitors.

I would be happy as I am able to serve the core users  of my Product /Service better than my competitior

Since my competitior has a larger base than Mine

I now need to rework on a different strategy based on a detailed study of the markets I am not in

May be the study could show most part of the  large base my competitior dose not make sense also
