Yes it is true, are certain values and principles by which we function we humans well as organizations, institutions, etc. important is to believe in them. In vain we learn by rote, or write them here or anywhere, if we have no passion, if you put soul into what we do. Reading from books, does not mean you and ready to lead a team.
Core values are the fundamental beliefs of organization. The core values are the guiding principles that dictate behavior and action. Core values can help companies to know what is right from wrong; they can help companies to determine if they are on the right path and fulfilling their business goals; and they create an unwavering and unchanging guide. There are many different types of core values and many different examples of core values depending upon the context so it is hard to estimate numbers of company core value.
Ideally shouldn’t exceed4-5 core values
10 core values don’t work. Sure, Zappos (awesome company built around their core values)has10, but their people don’t remember10 core values, They remember4, maybe5.
core values make you who you are. And you shouldn’t try to be everything to everybody
Meat processing plant has several core values that related to personnel, culture, strategy, and products.
It has five5 major core values.
I do think that there should not be a list of core values, as I, said earlier too, that core values are the black lines written on white paper with PENCIL, so that they can easily be edited with the help of ERASER as per the profitablity of organization. Even INK PEN is also not used to save the cost of paper indeed !!
I think that companies “aspire” to do a lot of things, and therefore create a lot of “aspirational” core values, namely6 to10, which are too many because employees and customers can't retain them all making them practically useless.
Franklin Covey studied goal setting and found that we can only achieve0-1 goals with excellence when we have4-10 goals to focus on.
If you want to set a number for your company, I believe a good number would be5 because then you could make each core-value correspond to each day of the week making them easier to retain on people's memories.
3 -5 core values
Companies tend to have only a few core values, usually between three and five. Only a few values can be truly core—that is, so fundamental and deeply held that they will change seldom, if ever.
To identify the core values of your own organization, push with relentless honesty to define what values are truly central. If you articulate more than five or six, chances are that you are confusing core values (which do not change) with operating practices, business strategies, or cultural norms (which should be open to change). Remember, the values must stand the test of time.
After you’ve drafted a preliminary list of the core values, ask about each one, If the circumstances changed and penalized us for holding this core value, would we still keep it? If you can’t honestly answer yes, then the value is not core and should be dropped from consideration.
Companies usually have anywhere between5 and10 core values.
It is very rare to have less than5 or more than10 core values because too few (like too many) would have a fire-back effect on the role and effect of these core values on corporate performance !
Typically5.
Usually company values are centred around Customers, Employees, Company culture, Service.
