Hi Jad,

Colic is smilar to human stomachache, and it's common sickness in horses. You should call a vet to come to check the horse condition, while waiting for the vet, keep every possible food away from the horse, and try to walk him gently, as walking can be good to horsrs with colic.  The vet may treat it with drugs to relieve the pain. If the drugs didn't work, the horse might need a surgery.

Until the cause is determine no effective treatment can be given against Colic, You need to contact with a experienced veterinarian.

1. You can use the pain killers such as Phenaylbutazone and Morphine.

2. if the colic due to muscle  spasm , you can apply a muscular relaxant.

3. Mineral oil can be given through stomach tube if the horse has gorged himself on feed.

don't use Atropine though it may relive pain quickly but it slowes the intestinal movement. in adult horses enemas may cause severe pain.

Colic is a metabolic problem on equine. Firstly you have to learn what type of colic and in which organs. For diagnoses we can use flunixin meglumine 1 cc per 50 kg and checking USG. It could be stomach, it could be intestine, it could be uriner system. All of them we choice different treatment metods.

Treatment for colic depends on many factors. The age of the horse, the reason for the colic, and the overall health of the horse and any underlying conditions are very important in determining the mode of treatment. Treatment also depends on the severity of the colic.

Treatment methods may consist of:

Medication

Medication will be given in many cases of colic. Usually, an analgesic will help your horse just fine. Medications will only be given after a thorough examination, so the real underlying condition is not covered up. Analgesics work for spasms, intestinal pain, and inflammation. For more severe cases, sedatives and narcotic analgesics will be prescribed.

Laxatives and Lubricants

Laxatives and lubricants are helpful in managing your horse’s colic. Often, the horse gets sand in his stomach area which causes impaction in the large colon. Lubricants and stool-softening medications help the horse find relief in passing a successful bowel movement, and the gas that comes with the pain of colic. Laxatives and lubricants are given through a nasogastric tube. Mineral oil may also be used to coat the inner workings and layers of the intestines.

Deworming

Strongylus vulgaris has been known to be responsible for colic in some cases. These larvae of the bloodworms affect the wall of the cranial mesenteric artery, which develops plaque within the tissues of the artery. The effects of the bloodworms on the arteries in turn lead to a reduced blood flow to the intestines. This does not allow the nutrients to be absorbed properly.

Surgery

If the normal flow of food being digested is disrupted, surgery is an option. Surgery usually is necessary if there is a blockage within the intestinal area of the body, especially if the obstruction blocks any supply of blood. Surgery also is recommended if the horse does not respond to any other treatment method.
