This idea is already being practiced at many universities and some schools. It is useful only when it is in the form of an objective questionnaire. It should be designed in a fashion to target the required feedback from the students to improve the teaching standards.

On the other hand giving an open invitation to criticize the teachers performance is not less than axing your own feet.

atleast you may have an idea about teachers performance but personal likes/dislikes can be a problem in it.

If it is taken in good faith,I have no problem BUT if it is meant to ''sit'' on badly appraised teachers NO!!!!. Students are not mature and a good percentage of them don't take seriously to such issues.NB:It should be taken with all the precautions the administrators can summon otherwise it can turn a well intended program into chaos.

I think it is a good idea for teachers to ask students to evaluate them. At the end of each year I give My grade4 and grade5 students index cards. On one side I ask them to please write one thing they liked the most about Mrs.Chassie, and the one thing they liked the most about my class.   On the opposite side I have them write the opposite- One they didn't like about Mrs. Chassie and one thing they would change about the class to help them learn better.

This could be adapted to a more advanced level for older students.  I find that often they give really wonderful feed back on something they didn't understand. Just because they are students doesn't mean that we can't learn from them as well.

Yes for sure. That will help both the teacher and the school. The teacher will know the weaknesses in her teaching and the school will know the needs of it's students and the best for them.

Definitely NOT, there has to be a line over which students can't cross! Regardless of "modern" trends there has to be a figure(s) of authority in society particularly in schools where impressionable youngsters need to be guided and subject to a degree of discipline. Allowing them to "evaluate" or "assess" these figures of authority ie teachers would bring about a breakdown in the recognised order of things. Teachers must retain their position as leaders, guides, mentors, to be listened to and respected. Leave evaluations and assessments to the appropriate education authorities that's what they are there for and they are the experts in this field.

je pense que les élèves n'ont pas les " capacités" voulues pour évaluer leurs enseignants , cette prérogative relève d'autres compétences !

I think that students do not have the "capacity" required to evaluate their teachers, this prerogative is covered by other skills!
