I do respect the answers of other respected members, my views are as below:

We can consider Assumptions as Infactuations, but I would like to suggest that before moving ahead to our assumptions, it is always better to have opinions of experienced and some probable study.

Assumptions are a necessary evil. We make them all the time. We just need to make sure that we are making the best possible assumptions as we can. We don’t need to be building a story. We need to fill in a gap or two with a most educated guess as possible. We have to then build our plan to prove or disprove our assumption so we can get the end result as best as possible.

Universal knowledge is a utopia. Therefore assumptios are needed in order to "draw" a framework for analysis. People in general are ment to function in a structured environment and its not a matter of whether assumprions are factors of success or failure.... they are just assumptions subject to constant change. Some time ago a person made an assumption that there should be4 dimentions, not3...and he was right (success)! On the other hand long time ago a person made an assumption that the Earth is flat...and he was wrong (failure)!

A funny interpretattion of the word "ASSUME" says  ... Do NOT assume .. because it makes an ASS or U and ME

Another saying from the dictionary of failures says "Assumptions are the mother of all messups"

A third thing I learned in the late nineties in the Y2K era, is that to be on the safe side, you are NOT allowed to make assumptions, exceptions, exemptions or what so  ever, and if you find yourself forced to make any assumption (due to lack of solid and firm info), then it is your duty to  "verify and validate" these assumptions as soon as possible .

In business planning and fure scenarion (what-if) planning, assumptions become necessary to fuel the exercise and beef it up with details ... This opens the door for "assumptions" that you can make in Plan-A, Plan-B and possibly Plan-C based on the "optimistic scenario", "pessimistiic scenario, and the "most-likely scenario.  Assuptions for these three scenatios need to be included, documented, agreed upon and possibly signed-off  by the different paries

I hope this is of help ...

If you need more, let me know !

Assumptions are a way to make intuitive leaps, to look at problems in different ways, and to try and extract order form chaos. They are a valuable intellectual tool.

However, the problem with assumptions is with communication. If you do not identify them as assumptions, and go on to build a solution based on unproven assumptions, it will only be as strong as your assumptions. If they are misrepresented or misunderstood to be fact, then you run the risk of wasting the time and resources of other people following your work. If at all possible, they should be as a minimum stated as assumptions in your work, and risk loss of credibility among your peers..to the extent this is a concern. If possible, once your intuitive leap has been made, and your hypothesis proven by some means, then you should go back and strengthen your arguments by revisiting your assumptions and see if you can strengthen them into legitimate arguments with additional supporting information. Strive to not over-state or under-state the strength of your assumptions.

ASSUMPTIONS & APPREHENTIONS are always self imposed,,nothing to do with realities,,, YES I believe some people have strong intutions.
