This is a very Tricky yet interesting Question. It's kind of like having a coin with2 sides. One side is ugly and the other is shiny as Gold.

Positives of The Gold Side:

1. Your friend if skilled can be a great Asset for the Team.

2. Good syncronization with them and supportive Team player

3. You know you can rely on them

The ultimate question is: Are you and them Professional enough to keep personal issues out of the way of Business, Objectives and tasks at hand? Can you both focus on achieving the professional goals efficiently and effectively?

Another question: If things go south, Are you courageous and professional enough to Remove them from your team if needs be? Your relationship might become sour if things don't workout.

Another question: What value you think they can add to your operation? Will they be an asset for the team or a distraction? Could their presence cause confliction for other team members and their expectations from you? Effects on Performance <---- Vital

The ugly side:

1. Often teams where the leader involves or includes a friend may not be a healthy addition.

2. Inclusion of buddies in business usually means bad for the business.

3. Professionalism begins to fade

4. Drop in your personal as well as team's performance

5. Huge conflicts often arise in larger teams

6. Favorism settles and creeps in

HUGE PROBLEM: Often people include thier friends and buddies from their old jobs, university, college freinds, relatives, fellow countrymen (Which gives birth to a HUGE RACISM PROBLEM btw) etc in their business operations and with the desire to "help them" with their professional careers. They end up destroying the business and tainting it's operations and goals. I'd like to especially point out that "nationalism/racism are the ultimate destruction tools to help the business go down the drain.

Often it's seen managers bringing in their own incompetent countrymen ignoring the business objectives and the business either goes downhill or may not perform as well as it could to it's full potential.

My Point of View: I'd definitely look at every single candidate through ONLY their character, personality, their professional background and conduct, history etc and most importantly for the skills they possess. I'd like to bring in individuals who can help me achieve the business targets effectively. Friend or not does not matter. There should be zero tolerance for incompetency. I'd not prefer bringing in buddies who are not mentally strong enough to understand and endure professional ethics and do not possess a sensible aura of wisdom and those who are not qualified should be kept miles away from your professional life.

If i were to choose only one option I'd say buddy filling in team operations is a bad idea. Avoid it all costs. I've seen some professional unfortunate situations where a new Regional director from a certain country appointed his fellow incompetent unqualified buddies in higher positiions within the organization e.g. by placing some of those buffoons as country directors, managers etc and ultimately as a result many old great business veterans because of whom the business was flourishing decided to leave the organization due to this discrimination and junk piling. Therefore I'd politely suggest to carefully make such decisions after a just deliberation for the benefit of the business you serve.

I do not agree to include the friends in team, I do beilive that friendship or friends are the precious gift of god and when we include them in professional life, it gives the results of unwanted stress and strech of the relation.

Friends are for enjoy good times and to share bad times, not to get in work with self.

I do NOT agree with this as a MUST ...  It is all subject to specifics on case by case basis

Having good friends in the same team may have great advantages and may in some situations have its own issues and problems

In my view, it will not impact the company business. if good firend are in the same team. As well in other hand we can say all team members are good friend working together and sharing there knowledge and experience with each others to achive company objective.

There is no harm in it provided both of them are matured enough to differentiate between professional requirement and friendship.Of course, it is another issue to judge them as to what extent are able keep their personal feelings aside while interacting on a professional platform / environment. If we follow the concept of avoiding the friends then we may land up in loosing talent.

Why not? I don't think that friendship alone is the deciding fator. It might have either a psitive or a negative impact depending on a lot of other factors.

Only friendship is no criteria for deciding on such issues.

It's not true, where good friends may make a good and strong team although if they aren't friends it may affect the organization

who said they should never ?

well from my point of view they must be in the same team OR in a different team where i can depend on them OR no friends at all because personal emotion

but in the end a friend may not have the right competencies to be in the team so all situations depends .... in many things etc.
