Very good question.  Employer loyalty comes first.  The Employer has to be loyal to "The idea" first, why is he in the market? what he wants to achieve? and then he has to be loyal to "The strategy" ..How is he going to achieve his goals? and then loyal to the Employees by devising development programs and engaging them and motivating them to share his dreams.  After all this Employee loyalty comes as a natural result which leads to customer loyalty as well

Employer loyalty and commitment towards the organization is what employers are looking for, and is more likely to lead towards employee loyalty especially when a loyal employee becomes a valuable asset due to his/her contribuition towards the organization and when losing him/her can be a huge loss for the firm.

Loyalty comes first. Employer and employee play cat and mouse game to beat and escape.

Its a give and take relationship, both should have a sense of transparency so they can act accordingly.Newly joiners are usually proactive during certain period in the same way Employer must realize not to keep it in a certain period only.

If I got the question correctly, whose loyalty comes first and lead others? A good company suppose to have a well structured Employee hand book containing total service rule e. g. Company policy on other benefits of employees (except salary), Company core values, Hirearche structure etc must be in place. Very clear and calculative job objectives should be given to all. Basis on that given job objectives, democratic & clearly communicated mid year & yearly evaluation system should be in place. Healthy work place and environment should be in place. Human resource development plan should be in place. And most importantly yearly employee engagement survey should be in place. Through which each and every one can comment about his job, environment, his boss and about company. All these means, company should show loyalty first to her employees so that she can lead them as per company mission & vission. Employee will consider all these and will show his & her loyalty then. Hermony of employee loyalty & trust will break, if all these are not in place and don't be followed accordingly.

In a good company where needs and wants of the both parties are aligned these should be the same. Being loyal to the company and its employees should be the same if all parties are working for the good of the organisation. Unfortunately many times these two are on opposite sides and  if so, then be loyal to yourself or try to find a company that actually cares about its employees.
