Which is more important the CV or cover letter?

The cover letter serves as an introduction to a prospective employer, much like a handshake. Make sure that you make a good impression with your cover letter. If the cover letter is not a good one the process stops there. A cover letter is often overlooked, but is definitely something that needs as much consideration as the resume.

They are integrated to each other. CV includes all skills, capabilities, and experience that you have. And cover letter is oriented to the employer and the job required

Without doubt, the CV is more important than a cover letter, but the cover letter is more important in grabbing the attention of the viewer of your application.

A cover letter is the packaging that "covers", wraps up and summarizes the content of the most important document of your application, which is your CV.

This does not play down the importance of a cover letter, since its importance is similar to the importance of packaging in marketing a product and grabbing first-sight attention of the buyer (recruiter).

cover letter is the first chance to get  reader interested – what’s going to grab their attention. 

Your personal statement is all about you, whereas your cover letter is all about your employer.  Sending your resume without a cover letter is like saying you only care about your needs rather than the employer’s.

Cover letter is the attraction point or the trigger in the beginning of the initial selection process.  But the CV is the real stuff that employers/recruiters take in consideration when creating their short-lists for interviews. Outside this expectation, I would say this all depends on the (1) type and level of position being applied for  and (2) the character and style of the employer/recruiter  and (3) any specific instructions or guidelines given by the client oprganization on how to deal with this subject !
