During my years of experience as a trainer and social mediator i I have noticed that most people do not have a goal, they lack direction and guidance

Setting reasonable goals help people attain a sense of guidance and clear direction.most of the teams I have been asked to train lacked the sense of direction and I have found that the reason is that they never set any goals in their life.when asked about their goals it is always make enough money to buy a car,a house,. .just material things. Don't you think that helping people realize their dreams through setting goals is our mission ?shouldn't we help people realize their dreams?

That's big dilemma with life getting more complex and tense beside introduction of technology. life was much simpler and clear in old time so was goal of life. one reason for not having goal is believe in predictability of life. you cant perfectly plan life like have to adopt and adjust your goals and means. but setting small milestone ii help to achieve big dreams or goals.

Good Day!!!

Absolutely right Amer........ Most of the people don’t realize the importance of goals.

Many people think they have goals, but all they really have is a wish or a dream. A goal is something distinctly different from a wish. Some also make plans of doing something and mistakenly assuming them as goals.

Many people have no idea how to set their goals.  Goal should be SMART i.e, Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound.

Living without clear goals is like navigating a ship in thick fog.

Agreed to Mr. Zafar Minhas....... People need mentors to help them developing the skills of setting both their life's & career's goals.

The skill of setting and achieving goals will have more effect on our lives than anything else.

YES AMER THATS TRUE,,,, MOSTLY PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW THEIR GOALS AND MOST OF THEM ARE UNAWARE OF THEIR STRENGTHS ...... THEY ALWAYS NEED A MENTOR, TRAINER TO GET THEM KNOW,,, WHO THEY ARE ,,,WHAT CAN THEY DO ,,,AND HOW THEY CAN DO.....

In my opinion this associated with what motivates. We're all motivated to improve our standards. Be it personal or/and work related. Looking at mas lows theory of man's motivation. You need shelter etc. Then want to improve the standards. It's important to understand by training that we shape the goals of the company to the goals of what the students need to achieve. Therefore creating productivity. This is done by education and teamwork.

Yes you are true, but, again it also depends on the persons to whom you are dealing with.

For a positive person it will be  accepting concept that we should go and help him out for the goals if he is not able to point out. But unfortunately if the person has negativity than it will go in a terrific manner for ourselfes.

But we should go for positive aspects because positive has life.

I do favour you over all

That is the key of success for any one to know his/her objective(s). If we can declare the objectives for people, then we are leaders no managers.

I wish to add some towards professional goals. Most of the organisations do not give importance to detailing the job role, job content, task and its time bound professional evaluation. This dilutes the urge and clarity towards achieving their goals. This is linked to Achievement and then to Success.

well i can only say that a life without goal is of no use so deffinately a job without goal will indeed be of no use.How to set goels and how to make people realise importance of goal can only be done through practicle work working in a multi national got mainly two type of goals corporate and self motivated goals and both are interlink a corporate goal can only be achieved with acjievimg your own career goal.where u see urself after a span of time a very common question but a very deep inside if you follow it.i believe in self settelment leading to you organization prosperity and achievements.hope u agree.

In my own opinion, each individual that we meet and worked with has a purpose in our lives and vice versa. What matters is our willful thinking to help and inspire others.

Of course, its not that easy we need to "WALK THE TALK"..telling them is not enough but inspire them by being honest to your words and by your hard earned achievements.

You may not assess them a sense of direction yet or may not notice because of your workload. Somehow you will realise that they inspired you by their improvements at work.

Yes ...  unfortunately, this is very much the situation with most people  !

But, I will describe the situation in my own words ,,, and use the terms differently somehow, but the main idea remains the same .... and very much in support of what you have stated in your question.

I call it "lack of objective" in life.  or "lack of "proper" objective" in life  !!

Here is where I use the terms and concepts in a different way than what you have stated in the question !

In my view, most people have "goals" in life .. biut not an overall driving objective !  Earning more money, buying a house,  getting a brand new car, ... etc are there in the minds of most people, and these are - in my opnion - goals and not objectives !! GOALS are by definition (the way I deal with them anyway) SPECIFIC and MEASURABLE   .. You may even describe them as SMART (specific, measurable, actionable/achievale, realistic and time bound)   ..  making a million dollars in the next10 years,  buying a new house in15 years, or exchanging the old car with a brabd new one in2-3 years are all good examples of goals .... but NOT objectives ... The objective behind such goals could be something like " BEING RICH "  , or " HAVING A HAPPY LIFE"  or "GETTING PROPER STATUS"  it is very much like the situation in a football match, where the obkective ould be to "WIN THE CONTEST" or "REAH THE FINAL"  OR SEMIFINAL ... what so ever.

To reach this desired overall result, the GOALS could be to "WIN THE NEXT THREE MATCHES, OR AT LEAST WIN ONE OF THEM, AND DRAW EQUAL IN THE OTHER TWO"    in this analogy,   I believe we need to focus on the LONG-TERM OBJECTIVE to motivate people and isnpire them to have THEIR OWN DREAMS /AMBITIONS  and INSPIRE / MOTIVATE them to MOVE FORWARD with these obkjectives.

This can NOT be achieved with short/medium term goals .,.   It is NOT the journey that inspires people,  It is the final destination or ultimate objective, the big, hairy and daring objective that does !!Back to the analogy of football.  It is NOT winning the next match that inspires the team, but reaching the final and/or winning the contest that does !!
