You need to know if she/he is good enough on her/his own and to deploy her/him accordingly. Not everyone is a good team player and such a person may bring self, the team, and the corporate plan down eventually. After plenty of opportunities if she/he remains neither lone or team player then it would be wise to let her/him go.
Give him chance after chance in order to repair his mistakes till a specific point which you will have all the right to take a decision against him and at then no one can blame you even him.
Give him/her an opportunity and motivate him that individual's contribution will be recognized and appraised only when we do good and succeed as a team only.
