Do you think hosting a major sport event such as the World Cup or the Olympics is GOOD or rather BAD, for your country?

In an oil & gas rich country like Qatar (My current Residence) which is hosting the2022 world cup, it is evident from the pace of ongoing construction and development that it is providing employment opportunities to more than a million people which is increasing at a rapid pace with every passing day. Since the oil reserves are projected to be depleted by2023 (Which is the main source of its economy), it has to rely on some other source of economy, tourism being a major one, which can easily be achieved by hosting such big events. Its a great platform for Qatar to show to the people of other countries that its in competence with highly developed European countries or even better than them when it comes to safety, rich culture, mode of transport, shopping, cost of living etc and a great platform for international business. Tourists and travellers who have a negative impression of visiting Islamic countries due to lack of their knowledge would know that the islamic world is far better than the false image that they have in their minds. With the current development in almost all sectors due to the upcoming2022 world cup event, it is providing a guarantee of a better life to its citizens, expatriates and travellers and executing their plan well. The air conditioned and well architectured stadiums are first of its kind in the world.

       Now, lets come to the negative aspect of such events. Since FiFa events see a large number of fan following who visit the venues to watch the matches of their favourite teams, a majority of them are westerners who are into a habit of drinking alcohol, wearing short clothes etc which is in contrast with the local Islamic culture. And for such events, the government certainly has to give some relaxation. Besides when the major aim of the event is to develop tourism, the government further may give permanent relaxation to the laws so that the tourists/travellers feel the comfort of their home country... This certainly will affect the long preserved culture of such countries and make the local youth more susceptible to doing unethical things. The government should come up with a plan that would ease down the laws for foreigners while simultaneously preserving its culture and integrity which is quite difficult...

I see it is good to host an event like world cup, we all see how it changed Qatar face and gave Qatar the motivations to achieve more
