In this case, you find very many people in big positions but with less training. I do believe some jobs need technical knowledge. Then why do Recruitment managers look at experience more than qualifications??
Both academic and professional qualifications and experience are important. The weight given to each depends on the type of job. Certain jobs can not be performed by somebody withoud academic qualifications. A medical doctor can not perform unless he is academically qualified and experienced. However, a taxi driver's driving experience matters more than his academic qualifications.
Fully agree with Ms Hanna.
Both are important. A formal qualification confirms that the person concerned is supposed to have required knowledge. Where as, an experience though adds to knowledge but entirety cannot be ensured.
Experience should be emphasized because most candidates applying for specific professional positions will have similar academic qualifications. Experience demonstrates what kind of work ethic a person has, if that person is able to translate his or book knowledge to being an effective employee, and what kind of coworker the applicant has been with others.
Experienc is more important rather than qualification at bottom level jobs.
Both are important but it also depends on the kind of job. There are certain jobs where experience matters more and others you have to be qualified academically and professionally.
Both are very important but when I want to hire an candidate I will look to his experience in the field that I need him for the first place then the experience qualification will come to the second stage .
Though I have answered to similar question, here is my response on this question :
If you ask me, have been a technical interviewer for a long time, it is PRESENTATION. The way you present yourself to interviewer, its gonna make or break things for you. Every candidate knows (post interview) that how did he performed.
The other part of story is, there are not much good interviewers available. People need special trainings to come up to the level where they can keep interview at informal as well as professional level. One must not google the "25 questions to kill a Java developer in interview". Organizations must understand that every technical guy can not be a manager and similarly everyone can not be a technical interviewer either. It needs speech skills, you have to get candidate talking in very open and informative manner. You have to take a glance inside the persona.
Candidate can have good interpersonal skills but lower competency against a given job and another candidate might be possessing excellent technical skills but poor presentation skills. Guess in general not-so-perfect-world of ours, who would get a job? The first one.
So in nutshell, while you prepare yourself with ammunition of technical skills, you must learn how to present yourself. You should list down10 great words those describe you,5 key traits those describe yourself at work,3 key technical skills,2 excellent projects and1 aim of getting hired. You have to pierce through the interviewer's mind and break his realm about technology. In plain words, it is equivalent to selling a vaccum cleaner in desert.
Sell yourself well. Rest I can be reached on skype to book sessions on grooming yourself for a great interview. And dont mind if I say I charge a little bit when you get selected.

In my opinion, the experience is more important than the qualifications. However, we can't rule the qualifications. Because the qualifications will bring you more experience in an easy way.
qualification is having the tools to gather experience in a good way, ans put them in the right persepctive.
But experience can also keep you from being open for new experiences.
Keep learning every day!
