double trime is used for large volumetric flow and flow will controled at two port  both plug diameters are coordination such that the medium exerts an opening force on the one plug and closing on the other and  actuating forces almost compensate each other out as a result    plug con take variety of shapes to meet application characteristic requirement

Double trim valve contain balanced trim at high temperatures.This valve permits minimum actuator size when required tight shut-off.

I think it is double seat for two plugs for more Flow control

The indication "double trim" is a bit misleading since there is only one plug with two control ports.

Reason for it is to balance the force executed by the process pressure altough in practice not fully since the size of both ports differs because of practical reason as to be able to remove the plug for maintenance. Hope this clarifies.
