Meredith Belbin and his team in the U.K. has been developed Belbin’s Team Roles: A Self-Perception Inventory as a means of identifying the roles people prefer to take in a team. People not only come with technical skills, but also with personal skills.
And their choices of the question " If I am suddenly given a difficult task with limited time and unfamiliar people……."
____ A. I would feel like retiring to a corner to devise a way out of the impasse before developing a line
____ B. I would be ready to work with the person who showed the most positive approach
____ I would find some way of reducing the size of the task by establishing what different individuals might best contribute
____ D. My natural sense of urgency would help to ensure that we did not fall behind schedule
____ E. I believe I would keep cool and maintain my capacity to think straight
____ F. I would retain a steadiness of purpose in spite of the pressures
____ G. I would be prepared to take a positive lead if I felt the group was making no progress
____ H. I would open up discussions with a view to stimulating new thoughts and getting something moving.
My choice is: D that states that My natural sense of urgency would help ensure that we did not fall behind schedule
There is no right and wrong answer to this question rather it is a tool to indicate your preferred role on the team
Life is always unexpected based on surprisesIt doesn't matter if i know the people or not , there is a task i'll take it objectively and make sure it would be done in the state of the art
I would keep cool and maintain my capacity to think straight and I would open up discussions with a view
to stimulating new thoughts and getting something moving.
I would definately take up the challenge and focus towards executing the task ,2 things if i have i would do it easily,
1. If i am a team person then no matter who the people in your team are you would manage.
2. If i am through in my field or area of expertise no matter which ever task i am give i can do it.
With respect to above points i can say that sudden tasks or working with unfamilier people doesnt make a lot of difference.
I usually succeed despite the circumstances because I stay calm and not panic. I would share the task amongst team who can best contribute according to their skills and knowledge
I would certainly ask for help where I can see difficulty in handling or completing the task.
The task was given to you with the team because the giver of the task believe you can finished the task within the given period.
Firstly, you explain the task to the team and the pressure on time limit. Then require their opinions on the best path through the solution. After their responses, merge with your idea and accomplish the task working with the team accordingly.
diffcult is not impossible, you have got two choices: follw the line (trends) or be a trend maker.
Unfamiliar people will becomes familiar by using positive communications skills.
You have two choices, either you stay on the sidelines and watch or you can dive in and accept the challenge.
winners always accept the challenge and work smart to achieve excellence.
winning is costly but pays well.
Treating people with kindness and humility almost always helps. Show that attitude and those unfamiliar people will gel in like a single unit to complete the task.
But if we are to enforce our own ego upon others, they would do the same causing friction within the team and eventually leading to a failure of delivery.
