From a Social Media perspective I can always refer to GAP Egypt (https://www.facebook.com/GAPEgypt) and Dubizzle Egypt (https://www.facebook.com/dubizzle) When GAP came to Egypt in 2012 they created a Facebook campaign which enabled them in about 2 months to: - Gain more than 50,000 Likes - Collect a list of potential customers' e-mails and mobile numbers (which they used later in other campaigns) The campaign was very straight forward and doesn't include any new fancy strategies.
A simple contest where you send your photos, photo with the most likes win.
What was the prize? More simpler: A photo session with and for GAP fashion.
However, they created different categories; one for males, one for females, one for kids, and one for babies which ensured a much big number of participants.
And the second important factor, is that in order to apply you have to use a Facebook application in which beside uploading your photo you must enter your e-mail and mobile number.
That's it.
Dubizzle Egypt in the other hand used a brand new technique, they went to the core meaning of influencers (a very-talked-about topic in Social Media).
They sponsored Asa7be Facebook Page, which is a very famous comic page with more than one million likes (they even sponsored their twitter account).
The sponsorship contains a bit unique elements.
First a number of the daily page posts (photos) will contain a water mark for Dubizzle with their famous selling line, same post will contain a link to Dubizzle website (since you cannot exactly track links that are coming to you from Facebook, they created a special webpage for this campaign - clever enough!).
Secondly, instead of creating a Facebook sponsored stories campaign with their own Facebook page, they created it with Asa7be page which mean more credibility for users beside more social reach (Facebook Advertiser will get it) - I consider it very clever campaign - although I don't have the results.
