Is Wal Mart welcome everywhere ?

Is Foreign Direct Investment in the RETAIL sector welcome? Would it not make the local trading community like shopkeepers and wholesellers unemployed as people would flock to shopping Malls and would not buy from the local grocery store. Or would the local shop keepers would survive as they have knowledge of the local market. Wal Mart made the mistake to building large parking lots in Mexico and Brazil where car ownership is much less compared to US. There are2 scools of thought in the3rd world countries.1st scool of thought is multi national entry in retail would make the local trading community unemployed. But there is another scool of thought which thinks it would bring employment to more local people , consumers would have a better deal and even FARMERS would benifit from the cold chain establishments of the multinational retail stores. What is your opinion.

I beleive in order to survive it will imprve the level of competition. And thus bound the local retailers to become more global in appeal.
