The best leaders are those who can lead and direct without misuse of their power. They must be able to inspire others in a direction or greater good. They must be strong enough to stand firm in decision making and leading others without an egotistical attitude. A great team leader will encourage others to brain storm and contribute to the whole. They also lead by example and intelligently. They are also good listeners. Charisma helps a team leader.
i believe in a saying that a good leader is a good follower. To be a good leader you need to show to your people that you are working and you are respecting your superior so they will also respect you. if you are a leader you must first earn the respest and trust of your team.
There is a concept or quote about good leadership that I always put in mind, "If my TEAM succeeds, it's because of the team. But if it fails, it's because of ME".
Being a good leader does not only mean imposing rules and giving orders to your subordinates but as well as being an Executor of such. It does not mean that you just take the lead without looking back what's happening behind your back. Instead, you put effort of pushing them so that they well excel as well. A good leader must also possess out of being tough at times, the sense of humor to maintain positive energy and must also show commitment to boost morale to others.
And lastly, in the event that the team has failed, a good leader must learn to embrace solely the failure rather than do the blaming which would not help in any case. And in turn, it would inspire others to do their best.
