There are many factors, which one should know about their team members.1. Abilities to do a work2. Skills set3. Strengths and weakness4. How to get one motivated about a particular job.
Supervise proactively - Encourage team effort to the end goal.
Avoid criticism, unless absolutely necessary - then it must be constructive not destructive.
Micromanaging gives negative impact - Give team room to work in their own way but together.

set a target for each individual.
Direct and supervise each member according to his talent.
provide good communication tools within the team
motivate and reward on the performance.
When you’re supervising a team, it’s tacit that it’s being done on behalf of the company’s management whose main concern should be strategic, and that you are directing people to execute tasks whose main concern should be operationalize them. So the supervisor is also a project manger that bonds two distinct planning horizons strategic and operational, hence being positioned in tactical planning horizon. This last conclusion will point out what else is needed to know besides individual capabilities namely, such important things as holidays, parental leaves or any other absence leaves, that could compromise targeted collective tasks.
There are other things the supervisor should know, either to supervise current operations or projects, or to start new ones, like the headcount, recruiting or admission time, technicity level and so on, but this information being very important, should be updated in the individual process or folder residing in HR Department. This information is also important to determine the lead time for starting any new project, all this information should be visual and easily accessible, in the form of KPI.
As stated before when you are supervising you are managing in the tactical planning horizon, thus you need the perspective for, at least the next two weeks, ideally for the next four, and being so, at the beginning of each cycle you will be ahead of time and you can direct operations to the things that you believe are important, like research that could bring process automation and make you earn more time. This perspective also divides the supervising problem into stages containing tasks needed to be done, so following the previous reasoning when you have time the decision should rely on doing things that are important in the near future, but when you are close to the end… well in that case the decision should be do whatever cannot be postponed. The result of doing things otherwise is that one will never finish what was started and thus not being able to accomplish targeted collective tasks.
