Big Data Management is the "art" of handling giant data blocks in a live DB system in order to provide instant "real-time" interaction with the data and less resource consumption possible!
in simple words with a real life example, YOUTUBE hosts millions (if not BILLIONS) of videos daily, each video clip can be dislpayed as "FULL HD, HD,480p,360p,240p), if each piece of video is stored5 times with different resolutions, Google would run out of disk space, and requesting to play the "pinguin dance" could take10 minutes to begin! In addition, ALL MENTIONED VIDEOS MUST BE INSTANTLY READY TO BUFFER!. that is, when you click a youtube link, you expect to have it Play instantly.. you don't want to wait for the hard disk drive to power up, and look for the file, then upload it to your laptop..
the list of examples could go on for ever regarding youtube big data management. I hope it's clear
Agree with Mr.:Arinjay
data sets that are too large and complex to manipulate or interrogate with standard methods or tools.
Big data is a blanket term for any collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using on-hand data management tools or traditional data processing applications.
Big data usually includes data sets with sizes beyond the ability of commonly used software tools to capture, curate, manage, and process the data within a tolerable elapsed time.[13] Big data sizes are a constantly moving target, as of2012 ranging from a few dozen terabytes to many petabytes of data in a single data set.
