The production system is purposely designed and structured layout material, information and energy that is used by humans and is used to produce specific products, designed to meet the needs of consumers. You can highlight elements of the input and output of the production system. Input elements are: the technical means of production, work items (materials, semi-finished products), energy factors, human factors, information and capital. The elements while output include: industrial products, manufacturing services, lack of production and raw materials, hazardous waste and product information. Given the definition of the production system can be simply say that this manufacturing process or the process of transformation, or transformation of the input output system. There are various models of the production system, one of which is a model example when the first research and development occur, then the process of manufacture and distribution. All these elements need to be managed, of course, all the time. There are many types of production. They vary according to factors of production and stability. Among the types of production can be distinguished: special projects, construction on demand, production to order, assemble to order, configure, specification, production of discrete production Appliance, continuous, repeatable, production warehouse. In a production system, and more specifically in the production process, there is specialization workstations. Can be divided into universal, specific and specialized. Universal operating position is one in which there is no allocation of specific parts of the operation - equipment and tools are universal. Special workstations are those to which is assigned a well-defined operation and parts, without the possibility of retooling. Specialized position is one in which it is allocated a group of parts and operation. There is here also possible to change over, but only in a narrow range, which includes a class of instruments and tools.

All operations in an organization produce products and services by changing inputs into outputs using ‘input-transformation-output processes. Operations are processes that take a set of input resources which are used to transform themselves, into outputs of products and services.
