How would you deal with Ethical dilemmas in Business when someone close to you is involved ? Respected members please provide your views

The following is a sample scenario , Comments are welcomed for any scenario in Ethical dilemma. The hypothesis is as follows , You are in charge of Ethics committee in your organisation . There is a rule laid in the organisation which states that employees are not allowed to attend parties given by vendors / subcontractors. You come to know that your close friend who is in charge of procurement has recently attended a party hosted by a vendor who has recently won a big contract from your company. Assume you are the first one to note. What would you do ?

Take it up with your ethics committee and seek their opinion as they would be in a better position to guide you with their valuable inputs to be validated by you for future course of action.

If you are in a postion where you have the responsibility to tackle any violation of the internal policies, you must take the responsibility to handle, even if it is your friend. If you are afraid to loose your friend, tell the committee to take over.

It is hard, but this is honesty.
