A manager is supposed to be aware of the work habits and productivity of his / her team members. Therefore, some burden lies directly on the shoulders of the Manager, whether discharging the duty satisfactorily and vigilantly. Furthermore, the top management will firstly enquire the matter from the manager. How would the manager face top management whilst being unaware of the team members' activities. This being the burden part. Now the management should assign the investigation to other senior manager to ascertain if manager was directly involved or just negligent. In case of direct involvement, certainly the manager should be terminated. In case of negligence, strict warning to be issued for the future
You should one thing is that no manager is unaware of his staff, but it is human nature that prvailes in any situation, and that is each of us deals with his emotions differently some of us can restrain to a certain extent and others can not. In any comapny or department all the mangers have somebody favoured over the rest of the team, so in this case do your job to the fullest and be satesfied with your work.
