In such situations, I come out with weak writings; so I prefer not to force myself. But, sometime you have no choice but to write; in this case; I try everything can help me and inspire me to write. I might wake up early, go for along drive on the bus or do my writings rituals.
I do that often..
It differs from form to form. I could force myself into writing, or editing, an article or an essay or a presentation that is due in some time, even if I'm not in the mood for it. Because then, my mind insists that the work needs to be done. And soon. And so, I write.
But if I weren't in the mood for poetry or story writing, I couldn't force myself into it. I would wait until I'm mentally ready for it. Or in the mood for it.
it all depands on what type of writing and if you have a dead line :)
writing usually flows when you have a clear mood;therefore, i'd say get up, get out.. do something fun then try to write again.
I believe it is neccessary to force yourself to write inorder to improve your writing skills. If your writing is just a hobby then ofcourse not, but if you are in the work world or in university forced writng will show you how skillfull your writing has become.
A writer has to have a kind of discipline that allows overiding hids mood swings. S/he raises her/his readers' expectaions and thus s/he has to write - if there is a public commitment - and not allow her/his mood to interfere with the creative process.
